These terms apply to all purchases made with Abodery, whether in one of our showrooms or through abodery.co.za. By placing an order, you agree to these terms. They do not affect or replace your statutory rights under South African law. Our Returns and Refunds Policy applies to all purchases made online or in our showroom, fully complying with the South African Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA).
Because luxury furniture involves significant investment, hand-selected materials and bespoke craftsmanship, we distinguish clearly between our curated standard collections and personalized custom orders.
Standard Furniture Pieces
Standard items are pieces purchased directly from our showroom or ordered online without alterations to dimensions, design, fabrics or finishes. Choosing a standard steel colour or wood stain does not count as custom, those remain standard pieces.
Online Orders (7-Day Cooling-Off Period)
Under Section 44 of ECTA, you have a 7-day cooling-off period to cancel an online purchase, beginning the day you receive the furniture. You will receive a refund, subject to the return transport and handling terms below.
In-Showroom Purchases
Standard pieces bought in person are not subject to a legal cooling-off period. Where you’ve simply changed your mind, we may consider a return within 7 days of purchase, at our discretion:
If the item is returned pristine, in its original packaging and unused, no restocking fee applies, but you cover the full cost of return transport.
If the item has been opened, used, or requires reconditioning before it can be resold, a 10 to 15% restocking fee applies. We’ll confirm the exact amount with you before processing the return.
Requests made after 7 days will not be considered.
Sale Item Purchases
Sale items can’t be returned for a change of mind, however, they are still covered by our 6-month warranty against defects, the same as any piece we sell.
Claims Process and Conditions
To request a return or refund, please contact us at hello@abodery.co.za or on our WhatsApp line at +27 60 570 4713 with a description of the issue and clear photos or a video. Our team will assess the claim and come back to you.
The item/s must be unused, free of any marks or wear, uninstalled and returned in the original condition and packaging.
Custom Made & Bespoke Orders
Custom orders include any furniture built to your specific dimensions, upholstered in a client-selected fabric, or modified outside our standard catalogue.
No Change-of-Mind Returns
Pieces that are custom-made, personalised, or altered to a consumer’s specific instructions are not included in the Returns and Refunds Policy above. Once a custom order enters production, it cannot be cancelled, returned, or refunded due to a change of mind.
Design Sign-Off
We require formal written approval of final designs, dimensions, drawings, material samples and fabric choices before manufacture begins. We cannot accept returns for aesthetic or spatial choices once you’ve signed off on these specifications.
Where a signed approval hasn’t been returned, payment of your quote is treated as your approval of the specifications, materials and dimensions listed on it and production will begin on that basis. Once payment is received, we’ll send written confirmation of the specifications your order is going into production against. If anything is incorrect, please let us know within 48 hours, once production has started we’re unable to make further changes.
Defective Goods and Our Extended 1-Year Warranty
Every piece we sell is backed by our premium quality assurance, which extends well beyond the minimum legal requirements.
While the CPA mandates a 6-month warranty, we proudly offer an extended 1-year quality warranty against material manufacturing defects from the date of delivery. If a defect arises within the first 6 months, you are entitled to choose your preferred remedy: repair, replacement, or a full refund. If a defect arises between months 7 and 12, we reserve the right to assess the issue and offer a repair or replacement as our primary remedy. Our specialist workshop team must inspect the piece to verify that the fault stems from a manufacturing or structural defect.
Exclusions: This warranty strictly excludes natural variations in luxury materials (such as unique wood grain, marble veining, or natural leather scarring). It also does not cover normal wear and tear, direct sunlight damage, incorrect cleaning methods, or accidental damage occurring after delivery.
Inspection on Delivery
Please inspect all furniture upon delivery or collection. When signing for your delivery, note any visible transit damage, tears, scratches, or discrepancies on the delivery note handed back to the logistics team.
If you discover damage that wasn’t visible at first inspection, for example, once the item is unwrapped or moved into place, report it to us in writing within 24 hours of delivery with clear, high-resolution photographs to help us fast-track your claim.
Refund Processing
Refunds are only initiated after our quality control team inspects the returned item at our warehouse and confirms it meets our return criteria. We process all refunds strictly via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) into the original purchaser’s verified South African bank account. We do not issue cash refunds under any circumstances. Please allow 7 to 14 business days for the funds to reflect in your account once your refund is formally approved.
